This section is for those of you who want to know what’s happening for young people in the different areas of Kirklees. We will keep you up to date with local events as much as we can, but we also need YOUR help. If you know of something happening in your local area, message us at: youth.council@kirklees.gov.uk
We will also use this area to keep you up to date with relevant local events. Please feel free to comment and message us with anything you think is worth adding.
This is also the area where you can get to know us – your Youth Councillors, a little bit more. We will post interviews with members of KYC and videos of what we’ve been up to. If you’re thinking of applying to KYC in future, use this space to get a feel for what we do and ask us questions.

Kirklees Council is looking at ways to save money on its street lighting energy bill.
One option is to switch off the street lights in some areas for part of the night and they are keen to hear young people’s views on the proposal.
Kirklees Youth Council were asked to help gather views from young people. They used a quick questionnaire which asked:
- Would you support the proposal
- Would it cause you any problems
- Do you have any suggestions about the best or worst times to switch street lights off
We received 86 responses:
- young people were divided about support for the proposal
- young people were divided about it causing a problem for them
- Those in support stated cost saving as their main reason
- Those not in support stated safety as their main reason
