Hi guys!
Hopefully if you’ve got this far and you’re looking at our page you know a little bit about the Kirklees Youth Council anyway, but here’s a quick recap of what we, your youth councillors, actually do!
We are Daisy, Tim and Laura – your KYCs for the Holme and Colne Valley locality. So what does that mean exactly? Well, it means that we were elected by the young people in the Valleys to make sure that their voice is heard by influential adults like our elected council members, or people who run the services that work with young people like the Police or the people who organise our youth clubs. It’s our job to take what you say and make sure all those adults listen to you.
The thing is, WE REALLY NEED YOUR HELP! Our job is to represent your views, so we need you to share your views with us so that we can get cracking – we literally cannot do our job without you!
So if you have an issue in your local area, you can bring it to us! It might be to do with transport; you might find that you’ve got nowhere to go with your friends or nothing to do; you might be unsure of what health services are around for young people or there might be a problem with anti-social behaviour somewhere near you. Whatever your issues might be – we’re here to help!
So far, we’ve found that young people in the Valleys have a problem with skate parks: Meltham wants one and apparently Honley say theirs isn’t what they want. We’ve listened to this and now we’re talking to those important decision makers to see what we can do. Watch this space for updates.
The Valleys is a very big area for just 3 of us to cover, so don’t wait for us to come to you to ask about your issues – contact us via this website, our Facebook page which is called “Kirklees Youth Council Home & Colne Valleys”, or email us at: youth.council@kirklees.gov.uk
We’ll post regular updates on here so you can see what we’re doing on your behalf and letting you know how you can get involved.
C’mon guys, let’s give young people in the Valleys a voice and let’s make that voice SHOUT!

Hi, it’s Laura here. This is my first blog on the KYC website and I’m very excited! Expect to be seeing a lot more of these from me as I intend to blog at least weekly! I’m currently at a Kirklees South locality meeting where we discuss lots of issues and plans of action every fortnight! In the lead up to our annual meeting on 28th October (which you are all free to attend in the public gallery – see the events calendar for info), we are discussing what will happen on the day. There’ll be lots of important people attending so it’s your chance to come and meet them and learn what KYC really do. We (KYC) are in the “hotspot” this time! I’m standing for role of Chair/Deputy Chair in this meeting along with a few others, and think everyone standing is worthy opposition! Can’t wait – hope to see you there! ;)
